Jim Short is a Fellow with Renaissance Philanthropy currently scoping a fund to support science education.
Jim is a former director in the Education Program at Carnegie Corporation of New York, where he launched OpenSciEd, a $40M initiative to improve the supply of and demand for high-quality K-12 science instructional materials designed for the Next Generation Science Standards. These Open Educational Resources have been accessed by over 100K teachers across all fifty states. Prior to working at the foundation, he was the founding director of the Gottesman Center for Science Teaching and Learning at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and district science coordinator in Denver Public Schools
Jim received a B.S. from Rhodes College, a M.Ed. from Vanderbilt University, an Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University and an Executive Certificate in Philanthropic Leadership from Georgetown University.
