Andrew Black

Andrew leads the UK Horizons programme at Renaissance Philanthropy.

Prior to joining Renaissance Philanthropy, Andrew was Chief of Staff at the UK’s largest public research and innovation agency, UK Research and Innovation. There he was responsible for providing advice, challenge, and problem solving across an organisational remit that spans all research disciplines and which delivers nearly half of all UK public investment in research and innovation. This involved working regularly across academia, business, government, and wider society.

Andrew’s background is in innovation and technology law, holding an LLB and LLM from the University of Edinburgh. He has previously worked on a number of research projects in this area. He has also held a number of roles across the UK government, including leading UK Home Office engagements across the Middle East, Gulf, and Turkey; working in private office for a UK Cabinet member (Secretary of State for Business); and roles in international development and prison education.
