Quantitative Research Analyst, Global Health and Development (Term Consultant)

Job description

Renaissance Philanthropy is seeking an exceptional part-time quantitative analyst to support our work, with a primary focus on global health. The purpose of this engagement is to strengthen the rigor of Renaissance Philanthropy’s analyses by:

  • Building and refining quantitative models that estimate the expected impact and cost-effectiveness of philanthropic investments.

  • Conducting structured reviews of the strength, quality, and consistency of evidence underlying selected interventions or funds.

  • Testing and challenging key assumptions that drive results through independent critical review and sensitivity analyses.

  • Qualitative evaluation of global health programs in concert with quantitative analysis.

  • Enhancing the clarity, transparency, and replicability of analytical methods and findings.

  • Supporting synthesis of insights into concise materials for decision-making.

Role & Responsibilities

Evidence Review

  • Assess the quality, credibility, and applicability of evidence supporting selected interventions or funds.

  • Review and synthesize findings from peer-reviewed research and high-quality evaluations, including impact evaluations.

  • Evaluate the strength of evidence based on study design, consistency, and external validity.

Critical Analysis and Validation

  • Independently review and challenge key assumptions within existing analyses and draft evaluations.

  • Identify potential gaps, uncertainties, or areas where conclusions may be overly confident or under-evidenced.

  • Recommend improvements to analytical approaches and reasoning frameworks to enhance rigor and objectivity.

Supporting Qualitative Analysis of Programs including Synthesis and Communication

  • Summarize findings and recommendations in concise, decision-relevant memos or presentations.

  • Engage in regular discussions with the Renaissance Philanthropy team to refine insights and next steps.


Key Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience assessing complex evidence bases. Specific qualifications include:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field such as economics, public policy, epidemiology, biostatistics, or global health

  • Experience conducting quantitative analysis, including cost-effectiveness modeling, sensitivity analysis, or related method

  • Proven ability to critically assess research design, data quality, and the strength of evidence across studies

  • Familiarity with statistical software or modeling tools such as Excel, R, Stata, or Python

  • Excellent writing and synthesis skills, with the ability to communicate complex analyses clearly

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Candidates may come from a range of professional and academic backgrounds, including quantitative social science, health economics, impact evaluation, applied data science, or evidence synthesis.


Duration of Contract

We’d like to start this engagement immediately, with an initial period of roughly two months at about 20 hours per week. There is potential for expansion of the role based on organizational needs.
