Partnerships, West Coast Lead

The mission of Renaissance Philanthropy (RenPhil) is to fuel a 21st century renaissance by increasing the ambition of philanthropists, scientists, and innovators. 

We design, incubate, and launch time-bound, thesis-driven philanthropic funds. In our first two years, we have catalyzed $533M for science, innovation, and technology, including $268M in funding raised for initiatives housed at Renaissance Philanthropy and $265M of funding unlocked directly for other organizations.


Job Description

As the Partnerships, West Coast Lead, you will play a key role in expanding Renaissance Philanthropy’s network of funders and partners, with an emphasis on the Bay Area. You will cultivate relationships with philanthropists and foundations aligned to Renaissance Philanthropy’s vision, mission, and methodology and identify opportunities to develop new partnerships. Ultimately, your work will help Renaissance Philanthropy and its programs to fundraise and deliver impact at scale.

This role reports directly to the Managing Director and collaborates closely with the CEO and President. 

Location: This position is based on the West Coast of the United States with a strong preference for candidates based in San Francisco. 

Salary: The salary band for this role is $180,000 - $300,000 and negotiable for the right candidate. 


Roles & Responsibilities

Funder Engagement and Relationship Development

  • Identify and engage new potential partners aligned with RenPhil’s mission and goals.

  • Leverage RenPhil’s existing network to expand the organization’s funder base.

  • Support the CEO in developing new relationships with funders in the Bay Area.

  • Host curated events including workshops, retreats, and dinners to engage and inspire a wide set of partners and funder

Building & Strengthening Philanthropic Communities

  • Ideate, pilot, and establish new communities of philanthropists and funders, in collaboration with the Managing Director.

  • Develop and nurture RenPhil’s community of funders and partners on the West Coast by ensuring regular meetings and touchpoints with active members.

  • Plan and execute a regular calendar of events, including dinners and workshops, to deepen relationships with funders

  • Facilitate connections and collaborations among funders, creating a thriving ecosystem of aligned partners.

Driving Strategic Partnerships & Fundraising Success

  • Identify opportunities for partnership development with new funders

  • Secure funding for Renaissance Philanthropy and its programs.

  • Track and manage existing relationships using salesforce.

Innovating & Expanding RenPhil’s Partnership Model

  • Experiment with and refine new approaches to philanthropic fundraising

  • Develop and enhance fundraising materials and pitch decks.

  • Coach Renaissance Philanthropy program leads to strengthen their fundraising skills and capabilities.

  • Support the development, ideation, and execution of new special projects to expand the Partnership function’s capabilities.

Outcomes

If you are successful in this role, in two year’s time, you will have:

  • Secured significant funding from philanthropists and foundations for Renaissance Philanthropy and aligned initiatives within the network 

  • Expanded and strengthened the network of partners Renaissance Philanthropy can support to unlock ambitious science 

  • Built and maintained thriving communities of funders who actively engage with and support


Key Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in partnership development, fundraising, or donor relations, preferably within philanthropy, nonprofit, or impact-driven sectors.

  • Proven track record of securing large-scale philanthropic funding.

  • Exceptional relationship management and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including public speaking.

  • Creative and attached to outcomes, not process – you’re constantly looking for new paths to the destination and excited to switch gears if there’s a faster, better way to get something done.

  • Team player with a proven track record of working well across teams and with external partners

  • Exceptionally fast learner. You enjoy (and have experience) quickly ramping up on new technical and organisational topics.

Preferred

  • Direct experience working with philanthropists 

  • Existing network of funders and philanthropic relationships in the Bay Area. 

  • Experience with Salesforce for donor tracking and engagement

  • Strong experience designing and executing high-touch donor engagement events.

  • Background in fundraising for science, technology, and R&D initiatives.
